| | Mentoring | The Florida Youth Council operates a mentoring program that connects youth and emerging leaders with disabilities with peer leaders that have “been there and done that.” If you are interested in receiving mentoring, or to learn more about the program, | | Florida Youth Council meetings | The entire FYC membership meets through monthly conference calls and quarterly face-to-face meetings to set the course for the program. The Florida Youth Council believes in the maxim “Nothing about us, without us,” and all FYC activities are created by and for youth and emerging leaders, with the support of The Family Café. FYC meetings are open to FYC members only; if you are interested in applying to become a member, follow this link. | | Participation in The Family Café Annual Conference | Each year members of the FYC attend The Family Café Annual Conference, Florida’s most comprehensive event for individuals with disabilities and their families. As a program of The Family Café, the FYC is able to participate in the Annual Conference by hosting multiple sessions on youth-related topics, including disability history and awareness, the IEP process, transition, self-advocacy, inclusion and the council itself. To learn more about The Family Café Annual Conference, click here. | | Annual Youth Summit | Each year the FYC and The Family Café host an Annual Youth Summit. This two-day event brings together youth and emerging leaders from throughout Florida to attend trainings, network with each other and create a community of leaders. The Annual Youth Summit is open to all individuals age 13-30 with disabilities living in Florida. There is no registration fee, and limited assistance for hotel accommodations is available. For more information about the Annual Youth Summit, follow this link. | | Newsletter | The FYC publishes a quarterly newsletter called The Noodle. This publication highlights the issues that youth and emerging leaders face every day, and provides an open forum for youth to share their feelings, stories and experiences. The Noodle is open to contributions from all youth and emerging leaders with disabilities, so feel free to send in your own letters, articles and pictures.
